Cambridgeshire Short Mat Bowls News story

Four Wood Pairs

02 Oct 2022

The inaugural 4 wood pairs competition attracted good interest although some players were understandably cautious as to how the format would work in practice.

Following some late call offs and a bit of re-jiggling the event was contested by 15 teams competing over 5 rounds.

Many members commented on the good number of bowls played throughout the day but it proved a lot of woods for some players.

The format of a break between each round and a long lunch break proved popular. Also proving popular was the MIBC opening the bar for a short time over the lunch period and the CSMBA remain grateful to our landlords for their assistance in offering new opportunities for our members.

Overall many on the day thought the format of 4 wood pairs worth repeating and the management committee will carefully consider all points raised at a subsequent meeting before deciding on whether to repeat the event.

A big thank you to Maureen Bell for organising another successful raffle and most of all many thanks to those members who kindly donated some excellent prizes and purchased a good many tickets. A nett profit of £78.00 was made from the raffle alone.

Confectionery related prizes were awarded to the top 5 placed teams.
