19 Nov 2023

A total of 20 teams entered this years pairs county championship of which 10 elected to
enter the national qualifier.  The event was held at Wisbech St Mary Sports & Community Centre as our usual venue at March IBC was unavailable.

Special thanks must go to Wisbech St Mary SMBC who kindly facilitated the event and agreed to loan their club equipment to the CSMBA free of charge. A particular mention of gratitude goes to Kevin and Jane Stanford who both went the extra mile to aid the running of this county championship and national qualifier.

The 20 teams were divided by way of open draw into 4 even groups of five teams.
All teams played all other teams in the same group and the following results were upheld.

Winners Group 1 : Neville Gill & Michael Gillett : 8 points with a shot difference of +18
Winners Group 2 : Kellie West & Peter Griffiths : 6 points with a shot difference of +15
Winners Group 3 : Colin & Craig Buck : 8 points with a shot difference of +23
Winners Group 4 : Hazel & Phil Spry : 8 points with a shot difference of +32

Following the semi-finals Hazel and Phil Spry beat Neville Gill and Michael Gillett by 8 shots to 7 to win the final.

The 3rd/4th play off was won by Colin and Craig Buck who beat Kellie West and Peter Griffiths by 10 shots to 4.

Token prizes were awarded to both Mike Carter & Kevin Stanford for their help in accommodating the day.

The umpire of the day Mr. Roly Fincham was also given a round of thanks and a box of confectionery for giving up his day to umpire the event.

Prizes were given to teams finishing in the top 4 places.  All top 4 placed teams this year had entered the national qualifier and time will tell how many Cambridgeshire teams will be allocated places at the nationals to be held at Melton Mowbray for this discipline on Friday 12th April 2024.

The county championship trophy and a cash prize was given to Hazel and Phil Spry, who for the second year running represented a winning team from Doddington SMBC.

Following a successful raffle and after all deductions a total of £79.00 profit will be credited to
CSMBA funds.
