Chairman’s Christmas ‘Fun’ Drive

10 Dec 2022

The chairman Mr Barry Fox presided over an excellent drive which had attracted 40 members to enter.  Many members entered into the spirit of Christmas by wearing Christmas jumpers and hats but some pushed the boat out with some first class fancy dress.

Unfortunately three members called off due to illness and poor Anyta was hospitalised the day before.  All those present wished those unwell a speedy recovery.  Those unable to attend due to illness will receive a full refund for their entry fee.

Utilising two reserves with the ever willing Jane and Kevin Stanford we had 39 players. The 40th place was filled with a combination of players sitting out and thankfully there was no shortage of volunteers, so the playing schedule was unaffected.

There was some fantastic play throughout the day with members playing with those from other clubs to make up the teams.  A great opportunity to cement new friendships and future playing combinations.

At lunchtime Dawn Fincham and her small group of helpers provided some light refreshments including sausage rolls, crisps, mince pies and cake.  This was all included in the entry fee as a thank you to all those members who have supported the Chair and his committee during the year.

The day clearly proved so successful as we were approached by several members to arrange another drive in mid-2023.  Interest is such that this will be discussed at the next CSMBA committee meeting where we will seek to agree the specific format and event terms.

At the conclusion of play, prizes were given out to the most creative Christmas outfits. The selection committee comprising of the chair, secretary and treasurer were so conflicted with the fantastic dress sense on view, that tubs of sweet prizes were very well deserved and awarded beyond the usual best dressed man and lady.

Best dressed men : Kevin and Barry Stanford.(No relation)

Best dressed ladies: Lynn Boddye, Stephanie and Victoria Stanford

Prizes were awarded to the first 7 placings in the drive and as usual a few surprising winners with this format, which makes it all the better.

1st Margaret Pearce

2nd Rob Bonello

3rd Val Ware

4th Barry Stanford

5th Wayne Locke

6th Jayne Thorpe

7th Rob Lawton

Finally a token prize was given by the chair to Linda Cave as the only lady present who had not won a competition or raffle prize.

For the benefit of CSMBA members and following all expenses and deductions a total profit of £131.47 was made from this event for the benefit of CSMBA funds.

Many thanks to all those members who contributed to a great day.
