This year's County Championships concluded on Saturday 9th July with the Pairs and Triples.
Due to the resounding support and in order to get the games finished by 6.00 pm all rounds in both disciplines were timed. Nevertheless, the event ran into a timing problem and it was with great reluctance that the organiser found it necessary to have to reduce the already allotted time for the last two round robin rounds as well as the Semi Final and the Final in the Triples. Quite clearly a re-think is necessary to eliminate a similar problem next year to probably run these two very popular disciplines over two days.
Eighteen Pairs contested the title for the best County Pair 2016. Three groups consisting of six teams played five round robin rounds culminating in a Semi Final made up from the winning team from each group plus the highest scoring runner-up from all groups.
Semi Final
The winners of group 1 Maureen Bell & Graham Lunn played the winners of group 3 Rob Bonello & Jayne Thorpe. Maureen & Graham won 12 - 1.
The winners of group 2 Bill Harrison & Joe Peters played the highest scoring runners-up Linda White & Rosemary Cooper. Bill & Joe won 12 - 7.
In the Final and having scored 4 shots in the first three ends Maureen & Graham conceded 4 shots to Bill and Joe in the fourth. Maureen and Graham came back with a single in the fifth with an immediate reply by Bill and Joe in the sixth and at the whistle both teams were level on five. An additional end was played when Bill & Joe scored the deciding winning shot.
