On Sunday 2 October the Cambridgeshire Ladies Short Mat Bowls Team played the English Short Mat Associations National Ladies Team at Tamworth Indoor Bowls Club. This was the away leg to the home game that was played at March Indoor Bowls Club in January of this year when the score was England 38 points to Cambridgeshire’s 10.
The Cambridgeshire Team, Captained by Jayne Thorpe, gave a good account of themselves at a venue that none of the Cambridgeshire players had played at before. Although beaten 40 points to 8 and 326 shots to 161 some of the games were very close calls.
The format for the games was different to that played in January. Singles and Pairs were dropped in favour of four rounds of thirteen end Triples and four rounds of eleven end Fours, however, due to time constraints, the final round in both disciplines were reduced by a couple of ends.
In summation, both Captains praised their players for a good competition played in the appropriate spirit. George Clark President of the ESMBA and England Ladies Manager reiterated the comments made by the Captains. He also invited the Cambridgeshire Ladies to consider attending the England Ladies trials that will be held in early 2017.
