The President's Select Team
Mr George Clarke, the ESMBA president, invited Joe Peters (A team captain) and Gerry Russell (CSMBA Chairman) to attend Tamworth IBC and join him playing in the Presidents team against England on the 10 September in recognition of their work done within short mat bowls.
On their arrival at the venue they were greeted by friends old and new and given an envelope containing a badge to commemorate the day, bowls stickers and a meal voucher.
There was an introductory line up where everyone was welcomed and the England team manager stated that the President's side weren’t expected to win any games. Joe and Gerry were put into a team of fours with Joe playing skip. The bowling was played to a very high standard and they managed to secure a close, hard fought win which set the pattern for the rest of the day playing pairs, triples and another game of fours. At the end of the day they managed two wins and two close losses.
To close the proceedings everyone was thanked for their efforts in taking part in a most enjoyable day. The final score was 34 games played with the President's team winning 5 games.
It was a very enjoyable, friendly day with extremely competitive bowling played to a very high standard which Joe and Gerry were pleased to take part in and represent the County.
England Ladies v England Under 21s
The above match was the first England game for Linda White and she travelled to Daventry to meet up with the rest of the team. There were five new players, all of whom were understandably apprehensive but all the ladies made them feel very welcome during the day and generally settled any nerves very quickly. They were given their England shirts and bowls stickers before playing three games of fours and one of triples. Linda bowled as no 2 in each game and the end score was 32 to the Ladies and 24 to the Under 21s. At the final line up she was given her blazer badge which rounded off a very special day in good company and Linda is now looking forward to the rest of the year.
