We had our first game of the year on Sat 7th April when the Cambs ladies team travelled to Daventry to play the annual game against the Avon (Bristol) ladies. For the first time half of the team travelled to the venue by bus. It was lovely to have the team spirit and banter on the way there to prepare us for the day ahead.
On arrival we were greeted by the president of Daventry Sue Pernyes. It was a pleasure to meet her and she stayed to take part in the line-up before the game. She presented the Avon captain Judith Sawyer and myself with enamel badges from the club. The two teams also exchanged gifts. Cambridge ladies presented jute fen bags and Avon returned with hand cream (Avon from Avon). Throughout the day we played mainly triples and a few games of three wood pairs. All the ladies played 4 games each.
Many of the games were very close but overall unfortunately we lost, having beaten the Avon team last year.
I would like to thank all the team and the ladies who helped in various ways to make the day run smoothly.
