SUNDAY 26TH JUNE 2026: FOUR WOOD
PAIRS
This year we had 16 teams enter the 4
wood pairs competition. We were expecting about this number of
entrants as since we first run this discipline in 2022 the average
number of team entrants has been 16.
The playing schedule was for all 16
teams to play all 5 rounds across 8 mats.
We had a break in between each round which gave members the chance to have refreshment and the essential chat.
A couple of the mats had to be laid
out on the temporary pickle-ball courts which of course ran very
differently than mat on mat but still very enjoyable for all. The
pickle-ball surface was definitely affected by the hot weather but
still playable and no different than some rather interesting village hall surfaces that
we have all endured.
It was certainly a warm day made a
little more bearable with open fire doors and some air circulation.
On completion no team won all 5 games
so scoring was tight.
At the conclusion of the day the
chairman handed out some cash prizes to the first two placed teams.
Teams finishing 3rd and 4th received some
decent boxes of Scottish shortbread. The usual chocolate gifts were
avoided this time due to the heat!
The top 4 placings were confirmed as
follows:-
1st Team 9 : Billy Chapman
& Peter Griffiths with 8 points and a SD of +27.
2nd Team 1 : Brenda &
Charlie Waling with 8 points and a SD of + 21
3rd Team 15 : Sharon &
Alan Bingham with 8 points and a SD of +14
4th Team 13 : Colin &
Craig Buck with 7 points and a SD of + 20
After a successful raffle and all
deductions the event returned a modest but more than acceptable
profit of £120.36 towards CSMBA funds.
I would personally like to thank those lovely members who very generously not only support the raffle with fantastic prizes but who dig deep and buy those tickets when requested by our raffle team.
I was lucky enough to win Sharon's lovely bouquet of flowers and with my wife on a cruise I decided to give them to my lovely 86 year old neighbour.
For once she was speechless !
The object of these competitions is not necessarily to make a lot of money but to run events for the
enjoyment and benefit of CSMBA members.
Of course a little bit of money helps and at this event members were playing with a lot of new jacks recently purchased by the committee.
Hopefully we will see plenty of members on Sunday July 19th when its the mixed 'Aussie' Pairs competition. That will be the last competition of the summer before we turn our attention to the winter county championships and national qualifiers.
