Over 55’s 2 wood pairs :
Sunday 4th October 2026
A total of 20 teams entered this years
county championship from which 8 teams elected to enter the national
qualifier. This event was played at our primary venue at March IBC.
By way of open draw the teams selected
there position within 4 groups of x 5. Each team played all other
teams within their respective group as a mini league.
National qualifiers have to be run in
accordance with the ESMBA rules and we are grateful for Mr Roly
Fincham in giving up his spare time to act as the formal umpire.
There were certainly plenty of calls
for his services and at one stage matches were held up for a short
while whilst he moved from mat to mat with his tape and calipers.
Following all group matches the
winners of each group were announced as follows.
Group 1 (Team 3)
Barry Fox & Derek Retchless with 8
points and a SD of +15
Group 2 (Team 8)
Josie Charter & David Wilcox with
8 points and a SD of + 46
Group 3 (Team 12)
Michael Dooley & Colin Buck with 8
points and a SD of + 16
Group 4 (Team 18)
Dave Bignall & Peter Griffiths
with 6 points and a SD of +17
Following some good semi-finals the
final was held between teams 12 & 18 and the 3rd and
4th play off place between teams 3 & 8.
The final was won by Team 12, Michael
Dooley & Colin Buck.
Second place was Team 18 : Dave
Bignall & Peter Griffiths.
Third place was Team 8 : Josie Charter
& David Wilcox
Fourth place was Team 3 : Barry Fox &
Derek Retchless
The teams finishing in the top three positions had all elected to enter the national qualifier so dependant on the ESMBA algorithm we remain hopeful that at least 2 teams will represent Cambridgeshire at the nationals.
The chairman presented prizes to the
top 4 teams and presided over a successful raffle that alone returned
a £122.00 net profit.
Once the CSMBA paid out the venue
hire, prize costs & ESMBA entry fees the event returned a final
total of £132.55 towards CSMBA funds.
