47 players contested an excellent day of bowls at MIBC. Unfortunately there were a few late call offs in the preceding week and again on the morning, but thankfully with planned reserves we still managed to keep to the 24 team schedule over 7 rounds.
Get well soon to all those that had to reluctantly withdraw particularly Margaret Rea who was hospitalised. We all wish her well in her recovery.
The short team consisted of David Wilcox playing with (invited & pressed others) who would otherwise have sat out during that round.
The highlight of the day was undoubtedly a special presentation to June and Claude Parish who were made the first ever lifetime members of the CSMBA. June was presented with a framed certificate confirming lifetime membership together with an engraved glass vase and cover, as well as an impressive flower arrangement.
The presentation ideally should have taken place much earlier but circumstances and covid19 prevented that. An official photograph was taken of June receiving her awards from our Chairman Mr Barry Fox, who looked resplendent in his blazer and tie. There was a little panic in the club when Barry nearly dropped the vase but thankfully order was soon restored and no harm was done.
Maureen Bell as usual organised a very successful raffle and a big special thank you to all those players who donated excellent raffle prizes and purchased tickets. A total of £97.00 profit will be banked from the raffle alone.
Following a re-count and check of scorecards the official placings (1 to 4) are as follows:
First : David Wilcox playing with in order Luke Feeley, Kevin Stanford, David Bignall and Hazel Spry : 8 points and + 45 shot difference. (Prize monies donated back to CSMBA)
Second: Joe Peters and Bill Harrison : 8 points and + 36 shot difference.
Third: Roly Fincham and Kevin Stanford : 8 points and +29 shot difference.
Fourth : Rob Gay and Chris Plaice : 8 points and + 28 shot difference
Boxes of sweets were given out as emerging player awards adjudicated by the A team captain and vice-captain. Congratulations go to Barry & Steph Stanford and Lynn & John Boddye.
