Cambridgeshire Short Mat Bowls News story

Three wood pairs

01 May 2024

THREE WOOD PAIRS : MIBC : SUNDAY 28TH APRIL 2024 A total of 30 teams attended on Sunday 28th to play the 3 wood pairs. Only one player withdrew from the tournament having been admitted to hospital in the early hours of the morning. All members of the CSMBA wish Craig Buck a very speedy recovery and we hope to see him back playing short mat very soon. His father Colin had found an able replacement in young Rory and it was really encouraging to see someone so young wanting to play the game in the right way. Competition was as usual very tough but all matches were played in very good spirit and with the ultimate sense of sportsmanship, which is what we have come to expect from these events. Following 8 rounds of bowls and all teams having played 4 games the top 5 places were as below. Teams were separated on points and then shot difference. 1st Kellie & Chris West with 8 points and a SD of + 37 2nd Angela Randall & David Wilcox with 8 points and a SD of + 34 3rd Maureen Fyson & Mike Carter with 8 points and a SD of + 30 4th Lynne & David Bignall with 8 points and a SD of + 19 5th Maureen Bell & Josie Charter with 7 points and a SD of + 9 As advertised the Chairman awarded cash prizes to the top 3 teams and diet friendly chocolate gifts to teams finishing 4th and 5th. The CSMBA committee would like to sincerely thank all those members who brought along prizes to supplement the ones that Maureen Bell our raffle organiser purchases for these events. It was indeed a brilliant raffle returning £175.00 in profit for CSMBA funds. These sort of sums could not be achieved without the generosity of a great number of our members who purchase plenty of tickets. Overall the event realised a net profit of £325.02 which is without doubt the single most financially successful event that I have had the pleasure of organising since I took over on a temporary basis in January 2022. Thank you especially to all those that constructively assisted during the day and to those unsung members who help with the equipment. David Wilcox Interim Competitions Secretary
