A credible twenty two (22) teams entered this years county championship over 55s pairs which was also a county qualifier for the nationals now to be held at Melton Mowbray IBC on Sunday 9th March 2025.
A total of six (6) teams had elected to enter the national qualifier, but as usual in Cambridgeshire both competitions were run in conjunction with each other.
The 22 teams were divided by way of open draw in 2 groups of 5 and 3 groups of 4.
We all saw some excellent bowling and after all group matches the teams going through to the quarter finals were confirmed as :-
Janet Goff & Ted Sands (9) v Mary Fox and Graham Martin (2).
Jean & Derek Retchless (6) v Brenda & Charlie Waling (8).
Barry Stanford & Malcolm Spriggs (5) v Brian Beecham & Peter Gray (11)
Hazel & Phil Spry (7) v Jayne Thorpe & Rob Bonello (2).
In semi-final 1 on Mat 2 Janet Goff & Ted Sands beat Brian Beecham & Peter Gray 11 shots to 4.
In the other semi the Spry’s came out victorious in a tough match 7 shots to 2.
The final was won by Janet & Ted in a tight encounter 9 shots to 8 against Hazel and Phil Spry.
Hazel and Phil go through to the ESMBA as our best qualifier finishing second with Brenda & Charlie finishing 4th.
Cambridgeshire hope to get at least one place in the nationals for this discipline
