4 wood singles County
Championship and national qualifier, Sunday 21st September
2025.
We
had a total of 20 members entering the 4 wood singles this year.
As
this event is also a national qualifier we have to follow the ESMBA
rules and divide teams into groups of 4 or 5 and play a round robin
league before we get to the semi-final and final stage.
A
total of 9 players had elected to play in the national qualifier with
the chance of representing Cambridgeshire at the nationals in Melton
Mowbray on Thursday 9th April 2026.
Players
on this occasion were divided into the 4 groups of 5 players by way
of open draw and selecting an upturned number.
After
some really tight games and good bowling the winners of each group
were declared as follows:-
Group
1 : Maureen Bell with 7 points and a S/D of + 24
Group
2 : Chris West with 8 points and a S/D of + 49
Group
3 : Joe Peters with 7 points and a S/D of + 29
Group
4 : Billy Chapman with 8 points and a S/D of +23
The
umpire of the day, Mr Roly Fincham was presented with numerous
measures throughout the day and was on his knees many times with his
callipers and wedges.
The
semi-final results were as follows:
Joe
Peters beat Maureen Bell 14 shots to 3
Chris
West beat Billy Chapman in a very close encounter 8 shots to 6.
The
final was won by Chris West 9 shots to 4 and 3/4th play off position
won by Billy Chapman 15 shots to 2.
After
a raffle and various deductions the event returned a fair profit of £58.96
for CSMBA funds.
