Over 55 Pairs County Championship

26 Aug 2023

Twelve teams entered this years county championship for players aged 55 and over as of 1st September 2023. Unfortunately due to circumstances beyond our control it was not possible to run this event as a national qualifier, but it is hoped that we may be able to fit in the national qualifier for this particular event later in the year.

The twelve teams were divided into three groups by way of open draw. The top team from each group would go into the semi-finals along with the highest loser across all three groups.

Following some excellent bowls and tight games the groups finished as follows.

Group 1 winners were Derek Retchless & Colin Buck with 7 points and a S/D of + 25.

Group 2 winners were Hazel & Phil Spry with 6 points and a S/D of + 17.

Group 3 winners were Linda Cave & David Wilcox with 7 points and a S/D of +12.

The highest loser across all 3 groups were Jayne Thorpe & Rob Bonello with 7 points and a S/D of +12.

Semi-final 1 was incredibly close and was won by Linda Cave & David Wilcox versus Derek Retchless & Colin Buck by 6 shots to 5.

Semi final 2 was another close match and won by Hazel & Phil Spry versus Jayne Thorpe & Rob Bonello by 8 shots to 2.

The final was evenly contested and the final score did not reflect the tight ends played.

The winners were Linda Cave & David Wilcox by 14 shots to 3.

Prizes were presented by the Premier Team captain Mr. Joe Peters who in the absence of the chairman was deemed to be a man in sufficient authority who presented the CSMBA trophy to Linda Cave.

Cash prizes were given to players from both teams.

Following a highly successful raffle the event after all costs, realised a total profit of £115.50 towards CSMBA funds.
