Cambridgeshire Short Mat Bowls News story

4 Wood Pairs

27 Jun 2024

4 Wood Pairs: Sunday 23rd June 2024

A total of 18 teams battled it out this year in the unusual format of 4 wood pairs.
We played this competition in 2022 and again last year when we had 16 teams entering, so it was good to see an increase in numbers.

All teams turned up in good time and there was some amusement when one of our members discovered she only had 3 bowls in her bag. Fortunately enough time to go home and collect the missing wood.
All teams played 4 games over 8 rounds and only two teams returned the maximum 8 points.

Before presenting prizes to the top 4 teams the Chairman presented a small token gift to one of our youngest entered teams for some years in the form of Michael 15 and Rory 13. The future of our sport needs our young members and congratulations to them both for the way they played and conducted themselves throughout the day despite drawing some tough opposition.

The top 4 placings were confirmed as follows.

4th : Team 59 : Angela Randall & David Wilcox with 6 points and a SD of +25.
3rd : Team 69 : Maureen Bell & Josie Charter with 7 points and a SD of + 30
2nd : Team 62 : Kellie & Chris West with 8 points and a SD of +17
1st : Team  63: Peter Griffiths & Billy Chapman with 8 points and a SD of +21

After all deductions and payments the event returned an overall profit of £94.50 towards CSMBA funds.
A big thank you to those unsung members who helped with the equipment and ensured the MIBC was left clean and in good order at the end of hire.
A personal thank you to Lynn Boddye who ensured in the absence of our catering manager Dawn we were all well supplied with tea and biscuits.
The committee thanks all those members who took part and contributed towards yet another good day of short mat bowls.
