Mixed Aussie Pairs. Sunday 1st
June 2025
The Aussie Pairs format has always
been popular within the Cambridgeshire short mat bowls membership but
for the first time we ran this one as a ‘mixed’ pair event only.
We had 22 teams enter the competition
and all turned up on the day in good time, so the enthusiasm to play
bowls matches has fortunately not waned.
We are lucky within our membership to
have a lot of very good lady players that can more than compete on an
equal basis with our men, and as a county we continue to encourage
and promote our lady members to play competitive bowls.
The format was 4 games for each team
over 8 consecutive rounds and the 6 live end limit resulted in some
interesting results.
After a full day of short mat bowls
the top four teams were announced as follows:-
1st (Team 14) Lynn Boddye
& Roly Fincham: 8 points with a shot difference of +27.
2nd (Team 21) Lynn &
Dave Bignall: 7 points with a shot difference of + 18.
3rd (Team 17) Jayne Thorpe
& Rob Bonello: 6 points with a shot difference of +27.
4th (Team 13) Hazel &
Phil Spry: 6 points with a shot difference of +21
The Chairman was in charge of the
raffle draw and a big thank you to those kind members who donated
some excellent prizes and of course purchased plenty of tickets.
Following all deductions the raffle achieved £102.00 net and overall
the event returned an excellent profit of £208.81 for CSMBA funds.
We look forward to seeing plenty of
entries at our next event at March IBC, a three wood pairs event to
be held on Sunday 13th July. See you all there.
